Have you ever known someone who has the intelligence, education and the desire to succeed at work but still can’t seem to break clear and do it? Well, I have and that person would be me. Your Identity is basically your self-image.
The reason so many people don’t know what they want to do is because they don’t know who they are. Your goal has to be to discover exactly who you are. When you know who you are, you will know your Current Identity and you will also know why everything in your life is the way it is. There’s no need to go deeply into this entire self-image thing because for our purposes we don’t have to. We’re going to go just as deep as we need to solve your work issues.
I was reading a book recently by a gentleman named Mike Litman. Mike has a self-help radio program where he interviews people like Tony Robbins, Robert Allen, Famous Amos, and many others. He wrote a book called Conversations with Millionaires where he gets all excited and interviews these people and pulls out some genuine nuggets of wisdom.
Mike talks about how when he first put the book together no one, but no one, wanted anything to do with it. He tried everything he could think of to get it to a publisher but no one was interested in his book. So, one day he decided he was going to BE a successful self-help writer – no more trying to be – he would BE.
The story goes on to tell how things started falling in place and he ended up publishing the book himself. He has sold several hundred thousand copies of the book and it has been translated into several foreign languages.
Mike had made a change at the Identity level.
He wanted to succeed so badly that he made a choice that he would BE someone new. As soon as he made this choice the magic started cascading down through his Beliefs, Capabilities, and Behaviors and right into his Environment.
To support the new Being choice he needed to rid himself of limiting Beliefs, take on some new Capabilities, start taking new actions and before he knew it his Environment was totally different from what it had been. Mike now has the #1 self-help radio program in the country and his self-published books are selling at a high level.
Like I’ve said before, this stuff is powerful if you’ll just do it.
